Gigabit over the plant's CAT3 phone wire
Fiber in, Cat6 for everything inside 100 m, and the old phone pairs for everything past it: an AX-24, an EX-24 and a GL-24xT in the plant's telephone room.
Why a GL-24xT fits an old telephone room
Fiber, Cat6 and the phone pair, each where it fits
An AX-24 brings fiber in, an EX-24 runs Cat6 PoE++ to everything inside 100 m, and the GL-24xT takes the old CAT3 pairs past it. CAT3 is rated for 10/100 Ethernet only; on one pair ReadyLink measured 1390 Mbps at 100 m.
One pair, point to point, no new cable
Each GL-24xT port takes one station pair, cross-connected at the 66 block. Nothing is pulled to the office: the phone jack becomes a Decora wall plate or feeds an IPC, and the pairs you have not moved keep their phones.
Power over the pair
The GL-24xT powers the IPC-1T-DECORA over the same pair (PoX), so the retrofit jack needs no power supply. The IPC-8T and IPC-4T add 2.5GbE PoE++ ports for phones, cameras and access points.
Representative install. The plant, rooms, offices and devices are examples, and the cable run is drawn at about a quarter of its length: the ruler on the wall marks the real distance from the 66 block. Throughput figures are ReadyLinks measurements on twisted pair; actual reach and throughput depend on the cable, its gauge and condition, and the site.
