One switch for the whole villa

A stand-alone villa is a tiny luxury house: Wi-Fi, IPTV, a smart lock, a gate intercom, climate, shades, a minibar and a pool. Every one of them home-runs to a single GL-24xEP+ in the utility closet.

   The villa

   A one-bedroom villa on the resort campus: lounge and bar, bedroom, bath, a deck with a plunge pool and a gated entry path. Guests expect it to work like a great hotel room and feel like a private home. Eighteen connected devices make that happen.

   Lift the roof

   Every cable in the villa runs in the ceiling cavity back to one closet. There is no second switch, no powered access point injector, no plug-in adapters behind the furniture: each device is one Cat6 home run to a PoE++ port, powered and connected over the same cable.

   Meet the GL-24xEP+

   On a shelf in the utility closet off the lounge: 24 PoE++ copper ports, dual 10G SFP+ and dual 2.5G copper uplinks, Layer 2+ management, and no fan to hear through the closet door. ReadyLED lights each port in the colour of its patch cord, so a tech can trace any run at a glance.

   Wi-Fi in every room and on the deck

   Three access points, each on its own PoE++ port: one over the lounge, one over the bed and an outdoor unit under the eave for the deck and pool. Guests get the villa's own radios, not a signal through a wall from next door.

   IPTV in the lounge and bedroom

   Two set-top boxes on 2.5GbE ports, one each side of the partition, drive the lounge and bedroom TVs: live channels, the resort welcome screen and on-demand content, all over IP.

   Entry and security

   The reader and smart lock at the door, the video intercom on the gate pillar and the camera over the entry are all PoE, so one buried run reaches the gate and nothing at the door needs a battery or a mains outlet. Each is on its own VLAN back to the property systems.

   Climate, lighting, shades and the guest tablet

   The thermostat, a PoE lighting node for the pendants and scenes, the motorised shade across the lounge glass and the bedside control tablet all draw their power from the switch. Scenes run from the tablet, the guest's phone or the resort's schedule.

   Guest services

   A VoIP phone with a direct line to the butler, a minibar that reports what was taken and a back-lit smart mirror over the vanity: three more ports, three fewer things for housekeeping to check by hand.

   Audio and the pool

   PoE speakers in the lounge ceiling and under the eave put the guest's music on the deck. The pool and spa controller on the equipment pad runs the pump, heater and lights from one buried cable, and engineering sees every villa's pool chemistry from one screen.

    One uplink back to the resort

    The whole villa leaves the closet on a single uplink: a 10G fiber pair from XG1, or, where the villa was built with coax for TV, an IPC-CSFP ReadyLink SFP in the same cage that turns that existing cable into the uplink. Flip the media in the toolbar. Either way, every villa is one link and one switch in ReadyView.
