The floor nobody wants to close

A casino floor is one of the hardest places in the world to run new cable. It never closes, every ceiling tile sits above a camera's sightline, and every hour of construction is an hour of machines out of play. Whatever network the floor gets, it has to arrive over the wiring that is already there.

What was in the walls

On the drawings, Treasure Island’s floor looked ready: Cat6 to the machine banks. In the field, the installed plant was out of spec — cable that fails certification testing and can’t be trusted to hold a standard Ethernet link at the distances a casino floor demands. It’s the most common version of the legacy-cable problem: wiring that looks modern and behaves like it isn’t.

The ReadyLinks deployment

Rather than re-pull a plant the building already paid for once, ReadyLinks runs over it as it is. ReadyLink hosts drive the existing runs from the floor closets, tolerant of the impairments that disqualify the cable for standard Ethernet, and ReadyLinks bank switches deliver clean, managed Ethernet at the machines.

ReadyLinks is approved by the Nevada and New Jersey gaming regulators for IP gaming deployments over existing serial lines — the level of scrutiny a slot floor network answers to.
