Quickstart guide
The basic steps to mount, connect, claim, and configure a ReadyLinks switch in the ReadyView dashboard.
If you just want to get started without reading more in-depth information, follow these basic steps.
#Quickstart
- Unpack and mount your switch, then power it on.
- Plug any one of the Ethernet or fiber ports into an upstream device on your LAN. The uplink port should have access to a DHCP server, and it will also need to be able to communicate with the internet.
- After powering on, log in to https://readyview.io. If this is your first time, create a new account.
- Claim your device and add it to a network.
- Make your desired configuration changes under the Device Details page of the dashboard.
#Allow cloud connectivity
If a firewall or gateway sits between the switch and the internet, permit the following outbound traffic so the device can reach the ReadyView dashboard:
| Destination | Port | Protocol | Description |
|---|---|---|---|
rlicloud.com, cloud.readylinks.io | 443 | TCP | ReadyView cloud communication |
mqtt.readylinks.io | 8883 | TCP | MQTT over TLS (MQTTS) device telemetry and control |
time.google.com | 123 | UDP | NTP time synchronization |
See Firewall rules for cloud connectivity for details and CLI connection tests.
#Learn more
As opposed to traditional hardware that requires physical access to be configured, you can configure everything before you even have your devices, thanks to the ReadyLinks cloud. ReadyLinks devices get their configuration settings from the ReadyLinks cloud, which means the only prerequisite to getting a device up and running is an uplink connection on the device itself. As long as your device can get to the internet and has the appropriate firewall rules configured, it will be able to contact the ReadyLinks cloud and report on its performance, as well as check for and download its latest configuration.
All of your configuration settings can be set up in the dashboard, either before you have the device or after. There is a tremendous amount of flexibility with the initial setup for a ReadyLinks deployment.
